Book Review: Till Fate Do us Apart

Author: Smita Das Jain

The story begins with a couple on the brink of divorce and struggling to find a balance to co-parent their special needs daughter. Vedika and Rohan are career-oriented and have always had their differences. However, their autistic daughter Samiksha was the fragile thread that still connected them and occasionally stirred the flailing embers of their relationship. Problems escalate when Samiksha has to undergo orthopaedic surgery at the earliest and Vedika is also bogged down with pressure from the office.

However a chance meeting with the orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Gaurang sets her heart fluttering and long dormant emotions are stirred awake. Dr. Gaurang too feels the pull to his heartstrings and sparks fly. There is an unspoken connection between the two, and it blossoms every time Vedika visits the hospital.

The story moves on, revealing how the relationships pan out.

I applaud the author for handling the intricate emotions so well. Whether it’s Vedika’s overwhelming guilt towards her little girl, or whether its her feelings for her daughter’s doctor or whether its Rohan’s urge towards a reconciliation… the author has treaded carefully.
